The Story of Nexus Hydroponics

Who We Are

Nexus Hydroponics began with a simple thought process: why does organic food cost so much and how can it be made to be cost effective in every region?

From overpriced kits and clunky systems to the steep learning curves of traditional hydroponics, the barrier to entry for beginners has always been high. Most systems on the market are either too costly, require specialized equipment, or demand more time and knowledge than most new growers can spare.

That's where Nexus comes in.

It all started when I stumbled across an abandoned open-source hydroponic design. The creator had moved on, the files were gone from official sources, and what remained were scattered, outdated versions of something that once had real promise.

As a designer and maker with a background in 3D design and 3D printing, I saw an opportunity to rebuild and rethink the entire system and recreate the project to do better and be truly expandable. It is from this initial design that I continue to innovate for the platform and create exciting new platforms to achieve higher results.

What emerged was Nexus: a truly modular, scalable, and affordable growing solution that fits into real people's lives. It doesn’t matter if you live in a studio apartment or run a classroom garden—Nexus is designed to grow with you.

We're solving problems others ignore:

  • Cost – Our modular system can be printed, built, and expanded piece by piece—no need for a huge investment out of the gate.

  • Complexity – Setup is straightforward, no gluing, no PVC pipes, no complex hardware, no cutting, no plumbing experience or grow-tent wizardry required.

  • Accessibility – With support for standard 3D printers and step-by-step guidance, Nexus is a platform anyone can build on.

This isn't just about hydroponics. Nexus is about reclaiming independence in how we grow food, empowering people to take control, and lowering the barrier between curiosity and capability.

And it’s still growing.

A Few Words About

Our Founder

Nexus Hydroponics is the result of a journey marked by resilience, curiosity, and a deep respect for nature. My background isn’t corporate—it’s practical. I’ve worked with 3D modeling since the early days of Google SketchUp and taught myself to design long before it was considered mainstream. My first design? A tablet PC running Android back in 2008—when tablets were barely a concept.

I’ve always been fascinated by additive manufacturing, but early limitations kept me on the sidelines. Now, with tools like Fusion 360, AutoCAD, and Blender, I’ve been able to bring my visions to life. The passion that drives me is rooted in using technology to work with nature—not against it.

Growing up in upstate New York, I had access to fresh produce all summer long. But come winter, a single green bell pepper might cost $5 and barely resemble food. That stuck with me. As the cost of living increased, inflation soared, and job opportunities shrank—especially in rural areas with niche skillsets—I found myself unemployed with a family to support.

Nexus was born from that tension. I didn’t want to just create another product. I wanted to solve a real problem: make growing your own food affordable, accessible, and possible—regardless of space, income, or experience level.

This project isn’t backed by venture capital or a flashy lab. It’s built from the ground up by someone who still believes that the best solutions are often the simplest ones—and that anyone should be able to grow something fresh, right where they are.
